A Level Psychology – Mulberry Stepney Green

KS5 A Level Psychology is a department that engages greatly with current and topical real-life issues that affect society today including the rise of mental health awareness, the breakdown of how memory is retained and recalled. The department has successfully grown over the years with the sixth form and currently stands as one of the most popular subjects on the sixth form curriculum. There are two Social Science specialist teachers within the department that engage with the students and ensure an array of resources are used to captivate student minds.

Curriculum Summary:

Popular topics such as approaches and methods related to the core areas of Psychology – cognitive, social, biological, developmental, individual differences and research methods are all retained and delivered through content similar to the previous modular A Level course. Explanations from different approaches, along with psychological issues and debates, are retained. A-level students are taught a range of attractive topic options which have been arranged to help improve synoptic knowledge and ensure that students experience an interesting, diverse and coherent course of study, regardless of which topics they choose.

Curriculum Structure: (AS/ Year 2)

We have designed the AS and A-level specifications to cover the core areas of Psychology and be fully co-teachable within the first year of study. We know this will help students who decide later on whether they wish to pursue Psychology at Year 13 or sit the AS exam in Summer of Year 12.

Mulberry Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College provide a flexible curriculum where AS students revise thoroughly and prepare for the exams. Whilst remaining students of the A Level cohort are taught ‘transition lessons’ to keep them up to date with the Psychology curriculum.

Extra-curricular:

There are multiple Psychology University taster days that allow students to explore the different bachelors that can be studied at further education, either for an Arts or a Science based degree. Psychology is a focussed subject that is partly Humanities with roots that fall into science and empiricism. Students have the opportunity to attend revision events that are situated in East London, Stratford.
