A Day of Politics and History: MSG Political Society’s Westminster Walking Tour

The Mulberry Stepney Green political society embarked on a fascinating walking tour of Westminster, joining forces with students from Mulberry School for Girls and Mulberry Shoreditch. The sun was shining as our students explored the historic streets and landmarks of the British capital, immersing themselves in the rich political heritage of the area.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to witness the iconic Changing of the Queen’s Life Guards at Horse Guards Parade. The spectacle was a thrilling experience, with the precision and pomp of the ceremony leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

This educational outing provided our students with a unique chance to engage with the political institutions and history that shape our country. As they walked through the streets of Westminster, they gained valuable insights into the inner workings of government and politics, deepening their understanding of the complex systems that govern our lives.

The walking tour was a resounding success, offering our students a memorable experience that will stay with them long after they leave school. By combining politics, history, and cultural enrichment, we are confident that this outing will inspire our students to become active and informed citizens, equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.

Mulberry History Society’s First Trip: Exploring HMS Belfast and the City

The Mulberry History Society embarked on its primary trip this week, taking to the Thames to explore the iconic HMS Belfast. This former Royal Navy warship, which served with distinction in World War II and the Korean War, offered a unique glimpse into life at sea during times of conflict.

As our students explored every corner of the ship, they gained a fascinating insight into what it would have been like to live, work, and fight aboard these vessels. From the cramped quarters to the bridge where crucial decisions were made, every aspect of life on board was laid bare, providing a captivating learning experience.

After exploring into the ship’s rich history, the group crossed Tower Bridge, taking in the breathtaking views of the City of London from one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. And what better way to refuel than with lunch opposite the majestic Tower of London? The proximity of modern-day London with its rich historical heritage was a perfect reflection of our society’s mission to inspire curiosity and appreciation for the past.

This trip marked an exciting milestone for the Mulberry History Society, and we look forward to many more adventures and discoveries in the future. By exploring our maritime heritage and the stories of those who have shaped our world, we aim to inspire our students to become curious, informed, and engaged global citizens.

Year 13 STEM Academy Students Shine at Greenpower International Finals

On Sunday, October 13th, our Year 13 STEM Academy students showcased their hard work and dedication at the Greenpower International Finals held at the prestigious Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex. Competing against a diverse group of schools and colleges from around the globe, our students demonstrated exceptional skills and teamwork at this high-stakes event.

This competition marked the final race of the season for our talented cohort. They gave it their all, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.

Our Greenpower lead emphasised the significance of the event, stating, “We tend to forget how big this competition truly is, and the level of competition we’re up against. All things considered, we at Stepney Green, and the whole of Tower Hamlets, should be extremely proud of what our students have achieved. We now look forward to their STEM Academy Graduation soon to give them the recognition they deserve!”

Congratulations to our Year 13 scholars for their outstanding performance! We look forward to celebrating their achievements and the bright futures ahead of them.

Celebrating Global Girl Leaders at the Houses of Parliament

On October 11, 2024, our Global Girl Leaders embarked on an inspiring journey to the Houses of Parliament. This visit followed an incredible conference held at the QE2 Conference Centre, where 400 girls from across the globe came together to celebrate International Day of the Girl.

The conference was a vibrant showcase of youthful energy, ideas, and empowerment, culminating in a special reception at the Houses of Parliament. Our girls had the honour of being welcomed by Mulberry Alumnus Rushanara Ali, who has been a powerful advocate for youth and women’s rights.

The event highlighted the strength and potential of young girls everywhere, emphasising the importance of their voices in shaping a better future. As we reflect on the inspiring messages shared during the conference, we are more motivated than ever to support and uplift the next generation of leaders.

Year10 & Year12 ADT Students Victoria & Albert Museum trip

On Thursday 3rd October we took 27 3D Design students to the Victoria and Albert Museum to take part in a design workshop.  The artefacts, posters, furniture and products we saw inspired a series of placard designs based on a personal theme of a ‘Design for Change’.

Students explored how designers communicate bold messages using visual imagery, colour and a slogan. They produced mini placards highlighting an issue that they thought was important to them.

A student in Y12 said “The design collection in the gallery was really innovative and it was interesting to see examples of architectural models of iconic buildings”.

We are very grateful to the Jack Petchey Foundation who made the day possible. The students were very well behaved and engaged in a creative day out.
